Easter Seals
The Challenge
Easter Seals Crossroads is the premier provider of assistive technology service in the state of Indiana. The organization has historically provided the majority of those services in the central Indiana area. A recent project has allowed the development of eight regional centers for assistive technology. In order to facilitate efficient scheduling and effective utilization of these regional sites, a variety of referral sources (including rehabilitation counselors, special educators, veteran’s administration counselors and others) will utilize a web portal. The web portal must include a facility search and scheduling system.
The Solution
Webexcellence started by designing a web portal which included a back-end Content Management System (CMS) to easily update information regarding the state and scope of assistive technology services provided. Then Webexcellence provided a tool in which potential customers and referral sources could locate the nearest regional center based on their city or zip code. A calendar utility was then created for each regional center which allows the potential customers and referral sources to identify available appointment times and then request that specific time slot.
In addition to the regional center facility search tool and the calendar and scheduling system, Webexcellence developed the Easter Seals web portal to be compatible with assistive technologies and alternative access methods (W3C / WAI Standards).
With the launch of the new site, Hendricks Power has been able to more effectively communicate with their customers and gain feedback so that they may better serve the community.
"As part of our recent Assistive Technology Regionalization program, Easter Seals Crossroads needed to develop a web portal that would allow our customers to know exactly when and where they could access our services. Because many of the individuals we serve have disabilities and use adaptive computer technology to access the Internet, ease of use and accessibility were extremely important to the success of this project. The professionals at Webexcellence immediately understood our goals both in terms of creating a clean, crisp design while including the necessary design elements to make sure that all visitors to our portal were able to easily access the information—whether or not they have a disability. The result was exactly what we were looking for and we look forward to working with Webexcellence on future projects."
